The Actuary Recognized for Excellence

Accolades for the SOA’s flagship publication in two competitions

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) magazine, The Actuary, received recognition for excellence in two competitions: EXCEL Awards (sponsored by Association Media and Publishing) and Gold Circle Awards (sponsored by ASAE, The Center for Association Leadership).

The EXCEL Awards are the largest and most prestigious award program that exclusively recognizes excellence in nonprofit association media, publishing, marketing and communications.

The Gold Circle Awards recognizes extraordinary marketing, membership, and communications efforts in 15 different categories that move organizations forward.

The Actuary (April/May 2018) received three awards:

These awards would not be possible would it not have been for the efforts of The Actuary’s contributing editors, authors, GLC—a marketing and communications agency that provides creative services for the magazine—and the SOA staff. SOA and GLC are honored by the recognition and thrilled to collaborate with contributing editors and authors on The Actuary.

Contributing Editors Dorothy Andrews, ASA, MAAA, CSPA, and Robert L. Brown, FSA, ACAS, FCIA, HONFIA, were the leads of the climate change issue of The Actuary in April/May 2018. Together they sought out authors including scientists, mortality experts, actuaries and other consultants, to explore the relationship of climate change and climate variability on natural and human processes; the impact of modeling techniques and how large amounts of data and experimental design research can help identify the drivers of climate change; how changes in temperature and precipitation are linked to diseases that drastically reduce human longevity; and how transitioning to a plant-based diet can positively affect the adverse effects of climate change.

The most important judges are SOA members, candidates and the public who enjoy and use the magazine. Visit www.theactuarymagazine.org and read what all the excitement is about.
